How it Works

What-if Analysis

Given the MRT RIB snapshots (i.e. an estimation of the Local-RIB of all ASes) we calculate the effect of applying different routingĀ  policies on these RIBS. Given an ASN we can produce a confusion matrix of the effects of a number of routing policies.

To do this we use the MRT RIB snapshots and known active prefix hijacks, which we source from BGPMon. Using the collected hijacks we calculate if a given policy would help mitigate the effect of the hijack on the given AS by checking if its RIB would be altered in the applying of the policy constraints. The results of these calculations are what is displayed by the ROV Forecast.
